Delhi High Court Upholds Rape Survivor’s Reproductive Dignity

The Delhi High Court considered the case of a 15-year-old girl who became pregnant after rape.

Her pregnancy had lasted more than 30 weeks.

The court said making her continue the pregnancy against her wishes could harm her dignity and well-being.

It said a person’s bodily rights include deciding whether to become a parent.

The court also said doctors must first check whether the procedure is medically safe and possible.

It ordered two hospitals to arrange the termination as soon as possible.

Medical material must be kept so it can help with the criminal investigation.

The government must pay the costs and provide care if the baby is born alive.
