Gujarat Affordable Housing Projects Crumble Amidst Waste of Funds
Imagine the government builds new houses for people who don't have much money.
But in some cities, these houses are falling apart or nobody can live in them.
This is because the houses were built poorly, don't have things like water, or people couldn't pay for them.
In one city, they even tore down houses because they were unsafe!
Now, the government is checking the remaining houses to see if they can be fixed or if they need to be torn down too.
This is a big problem because a lot of money was spent to build these houses.
Housing schemes for the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) in Gujarat are crumbling due to poor construction.
In Vadodara, a JNNURM housing scheme of 1,196 units remains unoccupied since 2019 due to lack of amenities.
Ahmedabad demolished 1,664 unused houses due to structural issues, originally costing Rs 55.20 crore.
Close to 4,000 houses in Ahmedabad were never allocated due to beneficiaries not paying their share.
A Rs 19 crore housing project in Surat collapsed before its 10th anniversary.
