NHRC Seeks Reports on Jhansi Gangrape-Suicide Case

The National Human Rights Commission is looking into the death of a 19-year-old woman in Jhansi.

News reports said six people, including three minors, allegedly raped her.

The reports said the incident happened at a cattle barn where she had gone to work.

They also said the accused allegedly threatened to share a video of the act.

The woman reportedly became distressed and consumed poison.

The rights commission said the reports, if true, could involve serious human rights violations.

It asked Jhansi officials and police leaders to explain what has happened.

They must provide information about the investigation and any compensation within two weeks.
