RBI: Rs 2,000 Notes Return Nearing Completion
India is in the process of removing the 2,000 rupee note from circulation.
This means people are exchanging or depositing them.
The government checked that banks had enough money before starting this process.
The 2,000 rupee note was introduced in 2016 to replace older notes.
Now that enough other notes are available, and because these notes are reaching the end of their lifespan, the government is removing them.
Almost all of the notes have been returned, with only a small amount still in circulation.
This is part of the RBI's plan to keep the currency clean.
Only 1.69% of withdrawn Rs 2,000 notes remain unreturned.
Total value of remaining Rs 2,000 notes is Rs 6,017 crore.
Sufficient cash buffer stocks were ensured before withdrawal.
Rs 2,000 note introduced in 2016 after demonetization.
