Supreme Court Objects to Prashant Bhushan's Remarks on Election Commission
The Supreme Court was hearing a case about the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists.
Prashant Bhushan, a lawyer, said the SIR was being done too quickly and caused problems for workers who check voter lists, including suicides.
He also called the Election Commission a 'despot.'
The Supreme Court told him not to make such remarks.
Earlier, the Court said the SIR is not unconstitutional and the Election Commission can conduct it.
Opposition parties had challenged the SIR, but the Court said it is a normal process to update voter lists.
Supreme Court heard petitions challenging the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists.
Prashant Bhushan claimed SIR was conducted in a hurry, leading to 30 BLO suicides and lack of transparency.
Bhushan called the Election Commission a 'despot,' prompting the Court to object and urge him to confine to submissions.
The Court previously stated that SIR is not unconstitutional and the Election Commission has the power to conduct it.
Opposition parties, including Trinamool Congress, challenged the SIR, but the Court dismissed their request, calling it a routine exercise.
