HC Seeks State Response to Salem's Parole Plea

HC Seeks State Response to Salem's Parole Plea

Abu Salem, a gangster convicted in the 1993 Mumbai bombings, asked the court for a 14-day leave to attend his brother's funeral.

His brother passed away in November 2025, but Salem only filed the request in December due to a court holiday.

The court wants the state government to respond to this request and will hear more about it in January 2026.

Salem has been in prison since 2005 and was convicted in 2017.

The Supreme Court has said he could be released after 25 years in prison, but the High Court has not yet decided if he has served enough time for that.
