Mumbai Doctors Perform Rare Ex-Situ Liver Surgery
Doctors in Mumbai performed a very special surgery on a 2-year-old girl named Aphsa who had a serious liver cancer.
The cancer was blocking important blood vessels, so regular surgery wouldn't work.
The doctors had to take out her whole liver, fix the bad parts, and put it back in.
This is the first time this kind of surgery has been done in India.
The doctors are hopeful that Aphsa will get better now.
Doctors at Bai Jerbai Wadia Hospital performed ex-situ liver surgery with autotransplantation on a 2-year-old girl with advanced liver cancer.
The child, Aphsa, was diagnosed with hepatoblastoma, which obstructed major blood vessels after initial chemotherapy.
The surgery involved removing the entire liver, reconstructing the healthy segments, and transplanting it back.
This procedure is claimed to be the first of its kind in India.
The surgery was necessary due to the tumour's obstruction of blood outflow from the liver, making standard surgical approaches unsafe.
