Punjab Power Consumption Drops by 8.5% in May
In May, Punjab used about 8.5% less electricity than the year before.
This is because it was cooler, so people didn't need air conditioners as much.
The daily power supply was lower compared to last year.
But, as the weather gets hotter and farmers start planting rice, the demand for electricity is going up.
The government is working to make sure there's enough power for everyone, especially for the farmers' water pumps.
They are preparing for higher demand and aiming to provide sufficient power to meet the needs.
Punjab's power consumption decreased by over 8.5% in May compared to the previous year.
The average daily power supply in May 2025 was 2,132 lakh units, down from 2,335 lakh units in May 2024.
The decline is attributed to an unusually wet May without extreme heat, reducing demand for cooling.
Power demand is expected to increase with the paddy sowing season starting June 1.
The PSPCL is preparing to meet increased demand, aiming for an 8-hour power supply to agricultural tubewells.
