MEA Dismisses Rumours After Ramaphosa Illness Following BRICS Summit

Some posts online said that several leaders became sick after a BRICS meeting in India.

India’s foreign ministry said those posts were fake and warned people not to share them.

However, South Africa confirmed that President Cyril Ramaphosa was unwell.

Doctors told him to rest and skip public events.

Deputy President Paul Mashatile was also recovering from a small medical procedure.

Other online posts claimed that Chinese President Xi Jinping left early because he was sick.

India’s foreign ministry said there was no basis for that claim.

The BRICS Summit took place in New Delhi.
