Codava Community Demands Constitutional Recognition, ST Status, and Autonomy
The Codava community, led by the Codava National Council (CNC), held a big gathering to ask the government for special recognition in the Constitution, their own political representation, and to be listed as a Scheduled Tribe.
They want to be counted separately in the next Census and have their own area to govern.
They also want special protection for their traditions and land.
The CNC warned against people from other countries being counted as Codavas and criticized changes to land use in their area.
They plan to have more gatherings in the coming months.
