Maharashtra Declares Holiday for Civic Polls

Maharashtra Declares Holiday for Civic Polls

The Maharashtra government has declared a public holiday on January 15 in Mumbai to help people vote in the civic elections.

This holiday applies to all of Mumbai, including the suburbs.

Government offices, banks, and private companies will be closed.

If a full-day holiday isn't possible due to essential services, employees must be given 2-3 hours to vote.

The BMC elections will be held across 227 wards, with 1,700 candidates contesting.

The votes will be counted on January 16.

The BMC is the largest and richest civic body in India, handling local issues like sewerage and public health.

The holiday is to ensure everyone can participate in the democratic process.
