Satheesan Says BJP’s Dream of Ruling Secular Keralam Will Fail
V D Satheesan said he does not think the BJP will rule Keralam.
He believes the state’s secular values will limit the party’s support.
He said the BJP’s recent election wins were helped by mistakes made by the CPI(M).
Satheesan accused the BJP and groups linked to it of trying to divide people by religion.
He said attempts to create divisions between Christians and Muslims had failed.
He also said the Congress would continue to oppose communal politics.
These are Satheesan’s views, as expressed in an interview.
V D Satheesan said the BJP would not come to power in Keralam, citing the state's secular character.
He said the BJP might win 15% or less of the vote, and no more than 20%.
Satheesan attributed the BJP's recent electoral gains to what he called failures by the CPI(M) and an “unholy nexus” between the parties.
He alleged that the BJP and Sangh Parivar seek to polarise communities, including Christians and Muslims.
Satheesan said the Congress would maintain its secular position and did not consider Narendra Modi or the RSS a major threat.
