BRICS Declaration Calls for Trade Flow and UN Reform

BRICS Declaration Calls for Trade Flow and UN Reform

BRICS leaders met in New Delhi and agreed on a document called the New Delhi Declaration.

The document asks for changes to important international institutions.

It specifically calls for the United Nations Security Council to give more representation to developing countries.

These countries would come from Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean.

The leaders also strongly condemned terrorism.

They rejected unilateral acts of war and asked for safer shipping and seafarers.

The declaration also encouraged BRICS countries to trade more using their own currencies instead of the US dollar.

China and Russia supported Brazil and India seeking larger roles at the United Nations.
