Turmeric May Help Lower Blood Pressure in Diabetes
A recent study found that taking turmeric or curcumin supplements can help lower blood pressure in people with prediabetes or Type 2 Diabetes.
The study looked at many different trials and found that these supplements can reduce the top number of your blood pressure (systolic) by about 2.69 mmHg.
This effect was even bigger in people who already had high blood pressure.
The supplements seemed to work best when taken in doses over 1 gram per day and didn't cause any serious side effects.
However, more research is needed to confirm these findings and figure out the best ways to use these supplements.
Curcumin or turmeric supplements may help lower systolic blood pressure in individuals with prediabetes or Type 2 Diabetes.
The study found a significant reduction in systolic blood pressure by about 2.69 mmHg compared to a placebo.
The benefits were higher in people who already had high blood pressure, with a reduction of 3.41 mmHg.
The effects were more pronounced in people with prediabetes or Type 2 Diabetes, those who were overweight or obese, and in trials using special forms of curcumin.
No serious side effects were reported, indicating the supplements are safe.
