Putin Proposes $1B for Trump's Peace Board
Russian President Vladimir Putin responded to US President Donald Trump's idea of a peace board for Gaza.
Putin suggested using $1 billion from Russia's frozen assets in the US as membership fees for this board.
He also said that if Russia and Ukraine reach a peace treaty, this money could be used to help rebuild Ukraine.
Russia has about $4–5 billion in frozen assets in the US and around $300 billion frozen in the West.
Putin thanked Trump for the proposal and said Russia supports efforts to make the world more stable.
Trump's special envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, are expected to travel to Moscow to discuss this further with Putin.
Trump announced the formation of the 'Board of Peace' to oversee Gaza reconstruction at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
The board aims to work with the UN and includes high-profile figures like US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair.
Israel, Azerbaijan, and Pakistan have accepted the invitation to join the board, while India has not yet officially accepted.
