US Officials Visit India Amid Trade Talks
A high-ranking US official named Allison Hooker is visiting India for five days to talk about making the countries better friends and working together on important things like trade and cool technologies like space and computers.
At the same time, another US official named Rick Switzer is also in India to discuss a trade agreement.
This is happening after the leader of Russia, Vladimir Putin, visited India to say that Russia will keep sending oil to India even though other countries are making it harder.
India really likes buying Russian oil because it's cheaper, but it's getting trickier because of rules from the US.
Still, India and the US want to keep doing business together and make things better for both countries.
US Under Secretary of State Allison Hooker is visiting India from December 7-11, 2025 to advance the US-India strategic partnership.
Hooker will meet with senior Indian officials, including Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, and discuss economic cooperation, AI, and space exploration.
Deputy US Trade Representative Rick Switzer and his team are also in India for trade negotiations to potentially lower US tariffs on Indian goods.
The visits follow Russian President Vladimir Putin's trip to India, where he reassured India of continued energy cooperation despite US sanctions.
India's imports of Russian crude oil have reached a five-month high, with refiners like Nayara Energy heavily reliant on Russian supplies.
