HRW Urges Finland to Address China's Repression
Human Rights Watch (HRW) is asking the leader of Finland, Petteri Orpo, to talk about China's treatment of its people during his visit there.
HRW says China is doing bad things to its citizens, like putting them in jail for no reason and making them work in bad conditions.
They also say China is hurting people in places like Xinjiang, Hong Kong, and Tibet.
HRW wants Finland to stand up for human rights and not just focus on making money with China.
They are worried that Finland's plan to work with China doesn't do enough to protect people's rights.
HRW also thinks that China's actions are causing problems for Finnish companies and are making people in Europe and the United States upset.
HRW urges Finnish PM Petteri Orpo to address China's repression during his four-day visit.
HRW states that Orpo's visit is a test of Finland's ability to defend democratic values and human rights.
Finland's Joint Action Plan with China (2025–2029) focuses on trade and innovation with vague references to human rights.
HRW accuses China of crimes against humanity in Xinjiang, including arbitrary detention and forced labor.
HRW warns that China's labor rights abuses pose problems for Finnish industries and contribute to global labor rights issues.
