BJP Seeks Muslim Support to Showcase Bengal Minority Appeal

The BJP hopes some of these voters will support its candidates.
Party workers plan to explain government programs and benefits to Muslim families.
BJP leaders say this would show that Muslims trust the new government.
Opposition parties say some campaign statements sounded threatening.
Political observers say the results will show how Muslim voters choose between the BJP and divided opposition parties.
The BJP wants to win the October 6 bypolls in Nandigram and Rejinagar while demonstrating support among Muslim voters.
Muslims make up about 27% of Nandigram’s electorate and roughly 69% of Rejinagar’s.
