India's April Trade Deficit Widens to $8.65 Billion
In April, India's trade situation changed.
The total trade gap, counting goods and services, grew larger to $8.65 billion.
This happened because the country bought more goods from other countries (imports) than it sold (exports).
However, the services sector, like tech and consulting, did well, bringing in more money than it spent.
Overall exports for the year reached a record high.
Specifically, exports of items such as tobacco, coffee, and electronics experienced strong growth.
India's total trade deficit widened to $8.65 billion in April.
Merchandise exports increased by 9% to $38.49 billion in April 2025.
Merchandise imports increased by 19.1% to $64.91 billion in April 2025.
Services exports grew 17% to $35.31 billion in April 2025.
Services imports increased by 4.6% to $17.54 billion, resulting in a surplus of $17.77 billion.
