Delhi University Faces Pressure to Provide Safe Student Housing
Delhi University has many more students than hostel beds.
About 70,000 undergraduate students enroll each year, along with more than 10,000 postgraduate students.
The university and its colleges together have 7,210 hostel places.
Many students from outside Delhi must rent rooms or stay in paying-guest homes.
These homes can be crowded and may not always be safe.
Housing costs can make studying in Delhi much more expensive.
The university announced two new hostels near North Campus, but the plans are delayed.
The article says the university and government should work together and help students find safe, affordable homes.
