Beed Excluded from ZP and Panchayat Elections
The State Election Commission in Maharashtra recently announced the schedule for Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti elections in several districts.
However, Beed district was not included in this list.
This has disappointed many political aspirants who were preparing for the elections.
The local bodies in Beed have been run by administrators since their terms expired in early 2022.
While the delay saves candidates the cost of bringing back migrant workers for voting, it also means the district will continue without elected representatives.
The political scene in Beed is quite competitive, with major parties like the NCP, BJP, and the NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar faction) vying for the 61 Zilla Parishad and 122 Panchayat Samiti seats.
The State Election Commission (SEC) announced Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti elections for several districts, excluding Beed.
Beed has been under government-appointed administrators since the terms of its local bodies expired in early 2022.
Aspiring candidates had begun campaigning, investing time and resources, which are now deemed wasted due to the postponement.
The delay in elections may save candidates the expense of transporting migrant sugarcane workers back to Beed for voting.
The political atmosphere in Beed is charged due to intense rivalry among the NCP, BJP, and the NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar faction).
