Pune Doctor Arrested in 2022 Kidney Racket Case
Dr. Ajay Taware, a doctor already in jail for a car crash, has been arrested again.
This time, it's because of a 2022 investigation into a kidney transplant case.
The investigation found that Taware, who was in charge of approving transplants at Ruby Hall Clinic, may have helped with illegal kidney swaps by using fake documents.
The police arrested him after reviewing the case and consulting with others.
He will be in police custody until June 2 to allow for a thorough investigation of multiple swap kidney transplants.
Dr. Ajay Taware, already jailed, was arrested in a 2022 kidney transplant case.
Taware was the head of Sassoon General Hospital's forensic science department and RAC.
He was remanded in police custody until June 2, following court order.
The arrest is based on a 2022 state health department inquiry committee report.
The report indicted Taware and others for misusing their position to aid in illegal kidney swaps.
