BJP Loses Gujarat Bypoll After Months-Long Legal Battle
In July 2024, people in a town called Devgadh Baria in Gujarat voted to choose who would run the town’s council.
Six seats were up for grabs.
The BJP, which had won most seats in 2025, only got two seats.
The Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party each won two seats too.
The election happened after a long court fight that cleared the way for voting.
Because of the court case and some party members leaving, the BJP lost its strong position in the town council.
BJP won only two of the six seats in the Devgadh Baria bypoll.
Congress and Aam Aadmi Party each secured two seats.
The election was held on July 28 after the Gujarat High Court cleared the way.
The result reversed BJP’s 2025 majority in the municipality.
The bypoll followed months of legal battles, defections, and infighting.
