CME Raises Precious Metals Margins
The CME Group, which runs big markets for trading, has increased the money people need to put down to trade silver, gold, platinum, and palladium.
This is the second time this week they've done this.
Silver was hit the hardest, with its price dropping a lot.
The group did this because they were worried about too many people betting against these metals and because there's not enough physical silver available.
Experts say this shows there's a lot of stress in the market, especially for silver, which is in high demand but low supply.
The price of silver and other metals went down after this change.
However, the prices of these metals have been rising over the past year due to various factors like supply shortages and increased demand.
The US dollar's fall also makes these metals cheaper for people using other currencies.
CME Group raised initial margins for silver, gold, platinum, and palladium, with silver seeing the biggest increase.
Silver prices dropped by 1% last week, while gold, platinum, and palladium also saw significant declines.
This is the second margin hike for silver within a week, leading to a 12% drop in its price.
The CME Group cited concerns over large short positions and physical shortages as reasons for the increase.
Experts note structural stress in the silver market due to industrial demand outpacing supply.
