India Proposes Mandatory Helmets and ABS for Two-Wheelers
The government is making plans to make riding scooters and motorcycles safer.
Soon, when you buy a new two-wheeler, the company will have to give you two helmets that are up to certain standards.
Also, starting in January 2026, all new scooters and motorcycles with engines bigger than 50cc or that go faster than 50 km/h will need to have a special braking system called ABS to help prevent accidents.
The public can share their opinions on these plans with the government.
Government mandates two helmets with new two-wheeler purchases.
Rule change is part of amendments to the Central Motor Vehicle Rules, 1989.
Implementation effective three months after final notification.
Helmets must meet Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) specifications.
