India's Power Surplus: PSPs Key to Storing Renewable Energy
India has more power than it needs right now, especially from renewable sources like solar and wind.
However, this extra power can't be used all the time because the sun doesn't shine at night, and the wind doesn't always blow.
Pumped Storage Projects are like big water batteries that can store this extra power when it's not needed and release it later when it is.
This helps make sure there's always enough power for everyone.
India is currently power-surplus with underutilized renewable energy capacity
Pumped Storage Projects (PSPs) can store surplus green power and meet demand during non-solar hours
Floating solar projects suggested to mitigate evaporation losses in PSP reservoirs
State governments pivotal in PSP development through timely site allocation and clearances
Approximately 224 GW of PSP potential identified nationwide
