Cyclone Montha: Danger Averted at Sangam Barrage Amidst Heavy Rains
A big storm named Cyclone Montha brought heavy rains, causing the water level in a dam called Sangam Barrage to rise dangerously high.
A large boat, weighing a lot, was being pushed by the water too close to the dam's gates.
If the boat hit the gates, it could have caused flooding in nearby towns.
Luckily, special rescue teams from the police and disaster response groups worked together.
They carefully got the boat safely to the shore.
This quick action prevented a potential disaster that would have flooded the villages around the dam.
Rescue operations were conducted at Sangam Barrage on Thursday to save a 30-tonne boat from being washed away due to tides from Cyclone Montha.
The Sangam Barrage had a dangerously high water level of approximately 1 lakh cusecs due to heavy rains.
A 3-member team comprising NDRF, SDRF, and Krishnapatnam Port guards, along with police, successfully rescued the boat after two hours.
The potential danger was that the boat could have hit the crush gates, leading to the inundation of surrounding villages.
Sangam Barrage is crucial for supplying water to 3 lakh acres and the city of Nellore.
