DRI Seizes 362 Tonnes of Pakistani Dates Routed via UAE
Indian officials seized a large shipment of dry dates.
The shipment contained more than 362 metric tonnes in 13 containers.
It was found at a facility in Nashik.
Officials said the dates originally came from Pakistan.
They were sent through a port in the United Arab Emirates before reaching India.
The paperwork reportedly listed the UAE as the origin instead.
Investigators are checking whether this was done to hide the real origin of the dates.
They are also examining the importer and other people or companies involved.
The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence intercepted 13 containers holding more than 362 metric tonnes of dry dates in Nashik.
The consignment was valued at approximately ₹3 crore and was seized at a Container Freight Station in Ambad.
Investigators said the dates originated in Karachi, Pakistan, and were routed through Jebel Ali Port in the UAE.
The shipment allegedly declared the United Arab Emirates as its country of origin despite records indicating Pakistani origin.
The DRI is investigating possible misdeclaration, document manipulation, and efforts to circumvent India’s restrictions on Pakistani-origin imports.
