AstraZeneca Licenses Obesity Drugs from CSPC
AstraZeneca, a big drug company from Britain and Sweden, is teaming up with CSPC, a Chinese drug company.
They made a deal to use some of CSPC's new drugs that help with weight problems.
AstraZeneca will pay a lot of money, up to $18.5 billion, if the drugs do well.
They will work together on more projects too.
This is part of AstraZeneca's plan to get bigger in the market for weight-loss drugs.
CSPC's stock went down a bit after the news, but it had gone up a lot before that.
The drugs include one that's ready for testing and three others that are still being developed.
AstraZeneca will sell these drugs everywhere except a few places in Asia.
They also have other big plans in China.
AstraZeneca will license obesity drugs from CSPC Pharmaceutical Group in a deal worth up to $18.5 billion.
The deal includes an upfront payment of $1.2 billion and potential additional payments of up to $17.3 billion.
The licensed drug candidates include SYH2082 (clinical-ready) and three pre-clinical products.
AstraZeneca has been granted a global license, excluding Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau, and mainland China.
The companies will also collaborate on four additional new programmes using CSPC's technology.
