Himachal Couple Raises Three Children Through Unschooling and Community

Mayur and Joy are raising their three children without sending them to a regular school.

Instead, the children learn from daily life, books, tutors and their own interests.

They study maths and English, but also cook, bake, draw, read and work with wood.

Their family lives around NomadGao, a community where travellers from many countries stay and work.

Talking with these visitors helps the children learn about different people and ideas.

The children also spend time in farms and between India and Vietnam.

Their parents believe children learn well when they are curious and allowed to explore.

Some relatives worry about this choice, and the children do not always have many similarly educated peers nearby.

The family continues because it values independence, confidence and practical life skills.
