ED May Delay Release of Bengal Minister Partha Chatterjee
Partha Chatterjee, a former minister in West Bengal, has been in jail since July 2022 due to a case involving money and jobs at schools.
He was granted bail recently, meaning he should be able to leave jail.
But, the ED, a government agency, might delay his release.
They can do this by arresting him in a separate case.
The ED used a similar tactic before with another person.
This could keep Chatterjee in jail longer.
Partha Chatterjee has been in judicial custody since July 2022.
He was granted bail by the Calcutta High Court in a CBI case.
Supreme Court stated charges must be framed and witness statements recorded before release.
The ED has the option to prolong Chatterjee’s custody.
