Sibal Warns of Declining Parliament Relevance
Kapil Sibal, a member of the Rajya Sabha, said that Parliament is becoming less important.
He thinks this is very bad for democracy because important issues are not being discussed.
He mentioned that there are fewer meetings now and people think nothing important happens in Parliament.
Sibal also said that the government is focusing on irrelevant topics like Vande Mataram instead of important issues like the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
He believes the government is avoiding discussions on SIR because they don't want their actions to be revealed.
The Winter Session of Parliament, which lasted from December 1-19, saw the passage of several important bills, including one to repeal the 20-year-old MNREGA and another to open up the civil nuclear sector for private participation.
Kapil Sibal claimed that the relevance of Parliament is gradually declining due to fewer sittings and irrelevant discussions.
He warned that this trend is extremely dangerous for democracy as real issues are not being discussed.
