Coaching body seeks GST reduction on education services
The Coaching Federation of India, which represents many coaching centers, asked the government to lower the tax on coaching services.
They want the tax to be reduced to 5% or removed completely.
They say the current tax is making things expensive for parents and hard for small coaching centers to manage.
They also want the tax limit to be increased to Rs 1 crore so that even small centers are not heavily taxed.
The Coaching Federation of India (CFI) urged Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to reduce GST on coaching services.
CFI proposed reducing GST to 5% or exempting it entirely.
Current tax structure is said to increase costs for parents and strain small education businesses.
CFI suggested raising the tax limit to Rs 1 crore to benefit small coaching centers.
The representation was submitted on January 28.
