Punjab Sees Rise in Water-Saving Rice Farming
Farmers in Punjab are trying a new way to grow rice called direct seeding.
Instead of the usual method, they plant the seeds directly into the ground, which saves water.
The government is helping by giving money to farmers who try this method.
This year, more farmers are using this new way, and the government hopes even more will join in.
The government also has campaigns and training programs to teach farmers about the benefits of this farming technique.
This effort is part of a bigger plan to use water wisely.
Punjab saw an 11.86% increase in land using direct seeding of rice (DSR).
Over 2.83 lakh acres used the DSR technique this year, up from 2.53 lakh last year.
The government is providing Rs 1,500 per acre to farmers who use the DSR method.
Financial assistance was given to 24,032 farmers who adopted DSR in 2024.
The Agriculture Department is organizing campaigns and training to promote DSR.
