Trusts Seek Jatayu Name for Nashik Airport Ahead of Simhastha
Two religious trusts in Nashik want Ozar Airport to have a new name.
They suggested calling it “Jatayu Airport, Nashik.”
Jatayu is a character from the Ramayana who tried to protect Sita.
The trusts say this story is connected to Nashik’s cultural and religious identity.
They gave their request to the district collector.
They also sent it to several state and national government offices.
The request was made before the 2027 Simhastha Kumbh Mela.
The trusts believe the name could help visitors learn about Nashik and visit the Jatayu Temple at Taked.
Two Nashik religious trusts have asked the government to rename Ozar Airport as “Jatayu Airport, Nashik.”
The trusts submitted a memorandum to District Collector Ayush Prasad and sent copies to state and central officials.
The demand comes ahead of the 2027 Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Simhastha Kumbh Mela.
The organisations said the name would highlight Nashik’s Ramayana-linked religious and cultural heritage.
They also said renaming the airport could promote the Jatayu Temple at Taked and religious tourism.
