ASI Plans to Develop 2,300-Year-Old Ujjain Stupa as Heritage Site

ASI Plans to Develop 2,300-Year-Old Ujjain Stupa as Heritage Site

There's an old Buddhist stupa in the city of Ujjain, India, that is about 2,300 years old.

It was built by Emperor Ashoka, who ruled a long time ago.

The stupa is very big—about 100 feet tall and 350 feet wide—so it is bigger than the famous Sanchi Stupa.

Archaeologists have found bricks from before and during Ashoka's time, showing the site was used for a long time.

The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) already protects the stupa and wants to make it a special Buddhist heritage site.

They are working with the state government to clean it up, protect it from farmers and weather, and let tourists visit.

Every year, Buddhist monks and devotees come to celebrate festivals like Buddha Purnima.

The ASI says the stupa is important for history and religion.

They hope the new plans will keep the stupa safe for future generations.
