Mumbai Plans Controlled Access Roads for Traffic Relief
Mumbai is building special roads called 'controlled access roads' to help with the city's bad traffic.
These roads will have underpasses and flyovers built at really crowded spots.
They will build these at places like Santacruz, Vile Parle, Borivali, and on the Eastern Express Highway.
A cool new technology called 'Box Pushing Technology' will be used.
This means they push big concrete boxes underground using machines, like a secret tunnel, while cars still drive on the road above!
This way, building the new roads won't stop traffic.
The goal is to make it quicker and safer for everyone to travel around Mumbai.
Experts from IIT Bombay are checking if the technology will work well.
This project aims to make Mumbai's roads less jammed and travel smoother.
Mumbai authorities are implementing an 'Access Control Project' to build controlled access roads at four congested locations.
The project aims to alleviate traffic congestion, shorten travel times, and enhance road safety.
Shortlisted locations include Santacruz (Milan Subway), Vile Parle (Maruti Mandir), Borivali (Sudhir Phadke Road), and Eastern Express Highway (Under Anna Bhau Sathe Bridge).
The 'Box Pushing Technology' will be utilized, allowing underground construction of RCC boxes while traffic continues above.
IIT Bombay is involved in studying the technology and implementation plan for the project.
- Who
- Mumbai Municipal Corporation (Authorities)
- What
- Implementing an 'Access Control Project' to build controlled access roads (underpasses and flyovers) at congested spots.
- When
- Work has begun at one location; construction at others to start soon. IIT Bombay study to determine the next phase.
- Where
- Four shortlisted locations in Mumbai: Santacruz (Milan Subway), Vile Parle (Maruti Mandir), Borivali (Sudhir Phadke Road), and Eastern Express Highway (Under Anna Bhau Sathe Bridge).
- Why
- To tackle traffic congestion, improve traffic flow, reduce travel time, and cut down on accidents.
Traditional Construction
Box Pushing Technology
Impact on Traffic
Traditional Construction
Traditional methods might cause significant traffic disruption.
Box Pushing Technology
Box pushing technology allows construction underground while traffic flows above, minimizing disruption.
Implementation
Traditional Construction
Requires conventional construction techniques for underpasses and flyovers.
Box Pushing Technology
Uses pre-made RCC boxes pushed underground by machines.
