INDIA Bloc MPs Stage Sit-In Demanding Election Chief’s Resignation
Opposition lawmakers in India marched toward the Election Commission on October 6.
They wanted the chief election official, Gyanesh Kumar, to resign.
Police stopped the march near the NITI Aayog office, and the lawmakers sat down to protest.
They said they were concerned about changes connected to voter lists and a voter-registration form called Form 6.
The Supreme Court said it had not approved a changed version of the form.
It said it would check the Election Commission’s records to see whether changes were made and who approved them.
The Election Commission said its members agreed on the voter-list decisions.
Some opposition parties did not take part in the march.
The lawmakers also questioned the heavy security around their route.
