Trump Offers Federal Money to Nine Universities, Pending Agreement
The U.S. government is offering some universities extra federal money if they agree to follow certain rules.
These rules cover things like who can be admitted, how students express themselves, and the cost of tuition.
The schools would also have to accept the government’s definitions of gender, bathrooms and sports teams.
The government hopes this will make schools align more with their goals.
Several universities have been offered these benefits.
The White House offered a 'Compact for Academic Excellence' to nine universities.
The compact requires alignment with government priorities on admissions, free speech, and gender.
Signing schools get priority access to federal funds and White House events.
International student enrollment would be capped at 15% of the undergraduate body.
Universities that do not comply would lose the benefits of the agreement.
