ICICI, HDFC Banks Post Mixed Q3 Results
ICICI Bank and HDFC Bank, two big private banks in India, recently shared their earnings for the third quarter of the fiscal year 2026.
ICICI Bank's profit went down by 4% compared to last year, mainly because they had to set aside more money for loans, especially agricultural ones.
However, their interest income went up by 7.7%.
HDFC Bank did better, with an 11.5% increase in profit and a 6.4% rise in interest income.
But even so, some investors are being careful because HDFC Bank's growth and profit margins might be hard to keep up.
Experts are still mostly positive about both banks, saying that the drops in share prices might be a good time to buy.
Brokerages have given both banks positive ratings, with target prices indicating potential upside despite the recent share price declines.
ICICI Bank reported a 4% YoY decline in net profit for Q3FY26 to Rs 11,318 crore due to higher provisions and a one-time agricultural loan hit.
HDFC Bank posted an 11.5% YoY increase in profit at Rs 18,654 crore for Q3FY26, with NII growing 6.4% to Rs 32,620 crore.
Both banks' shares declined on Monday, with ICICI Bank down 3.6% and HDFC Bank down 1.2% in intraday trade.
Analysts described ICICI Bank's results as in-line with expectations, highlighting stable margins and loan growth, while HDFC Bank's results were seen as a mixed bag.
Brokerages maintained positive outlooks on both banks, with target prices indicating potential upside despite the recent share price declines.
