US-Canada Trade Deal Collapses Over Trucks, Culture and Tariffs

US-Canada Trade Deal Collapses Over Trucks, Culture and Tariffs

Canada and the United States were trying to make a new trade deal.

The talks ended without an agreement late Friday.

Canada said the United States asked for things that could hurt Canadian businesses, culture and decision-making.

The United States said it offered Canada lower tariffs and a better deal.

The countries especially disagreed about tariffs on large Canadian trucks and cars.

President Trump then placed 50% tariffs on some Canadian products.

Canada said it would answer with matching tariffs on some American products starting September 8.

Businesses that sell goods across the border may lose money or jobs.

Canada plans to help industries affected by the tariffs.
