India: Driving Rules and Essential Documents
In India, when you drive, you must have important papers like your driver's license and car registration.
If you don't have them when the police ask, you might have to pay a big fine.
You also need proof of car insurance and a PUC certificate, which shows your car isn't polluting too much.
Good news: you can now use digital copies on your phone!
If you forget your papers, you can show them within a week to lower the fine.
It's smart to keep both paper and digital copies and remember when to renew your documents.
Indian drivers must carry a valid driving licence, registration certificate, insurance papers, and PUC certificate.
Failing to produce required documents can result in fines and potential jail time.
Digital versions of documents on DigiLocker or mParivahan are legally accepted.
If stopped without documents, present them within 7 days to reduce the fine.
Keeping physical and digital copies and setting renewal reminders are recommended.
