Dalit Surgeon Dies by Suicide Over Caste Discrimination
A young doctor named B Lavanya, who was from a lower caste group in India, took her own life by injecting a harmful substance.

The incident occurred on January 3, 2024, at the Government Medical College in Siddipet, Telangana.
The surgeon self-injected paraquat weedicide in the college hostel and was later admitted to a hospital in Hyderabad, where she died on January 4.
Police arrested the accused senior resident doctor under relevant sections of the BNS and SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
