Gujarat, Maharashtra on Red Alert for Heavy Monsoon Rains
The India Meteorological Department said that a big storm called a depression is moving across central India.
Because of this storm, a lot of rain and thunderstorms are expected in Gujarat and some parts of Maharashtra.
The warning is called a "red alert" and it means the weather could be very dangerous.
The alert starts on July 31 and lasts until August 2.
People in many districts should stay indoors and avoid going out, especially fishermen.
The rain could cause floods and damage to roads and houses.
The government is telling everyone to be careful and to follow safety instructions.
This is a normal part of the monsoon season, but the rain is expected to be heavier than usual.
IMD issued a red alert for Gujarat and parts of Maharashtra on 31 July 2026.
The alert warns of extremely heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds until 2 August.
Affected districts include 45 areas in Gujarat and several in Maharashtra, such as Vadodara, Narmada, and Tapi.
A deep depression over central Vidarbha and adjoining south Madhya Pradesh is the cause of the heavy rains.
Fishermen and residents are advised to stay indoors and avoid venturing out until 3 August.
