Karnataka High Court Orders Police Notice for Foreign Tenants

Karnataka High Court Orders Police Notice for Foreign Tenants

The Karnataka High Court gave new instructions to landlords who rent homes to foreign nationals.

Landlords must tell local police when foreign tenants stay in their properties.

They must also collect passport copies, visa dates, and information about the tenants’ college or workplace.

The court was hearing a case involving a landlord who rented homes to 12 people whose visas had expired.

The tenants were from Congo, Sudan, and Cameroon.

The court said overstaying and possible links to drug networks could threaten internal security.

It refused to cancel the police case against the landlord.

Police must now collect more information and give a report to the public prosecutor.
