Nagaland Assembly Tables Revised Frontier Territorial Authority Bill

Nagaland Assembly Tables Revised Frontier Territorial Authority Bill

Nagaland’s government wants to create a new administrative body for the eastern part of the state.

The body would be called the Frontier Nagaland Territorial Authority.

A previous version of the plan was put on hold in March.

Lawmakers had questions about how much power the authority would have and whether the plan followed the law.

The government then consulted different groups and prepared a revised Bill.

The old Bill was withdrawn on Tuesday, and the revised Bill was introduced.

The Assembly is expected to discuss and vote on it on Thursday.

The Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation has long argued that the eastern districts have been neglected.

It once sought a separate state but later agreed to consider greater autonomy instead.
