India Raises Onion Procurement Price to ₹2,335 per Quintal
The Indian government has raised the price it pays farmers for onions.
Starting on July 30, the government will buy Grade‑A onions for ₹2,335 per quintal, up from ₹1,350.
This is the seventh price increase this season, giving farmers a big boost.
The government will no longer buy Grade‑URS onions.
The move is meant to help farmers earn more money and bring more onions to the government’s buying centers.
Government raised minimum procurement price for Grade‑A onions to ₹2,335 per quintal effective 30 July 2024.
This is the seventh price hike in the current season, increasing the price by ₹1,085 from the original ₹1,350.
Procurement of Grade‑URS onions has been discontinued; only Grade‑A onions will be eligible.
The hike aims to encourage more farmers to bring onions to NAFED and NCCF procurement centers.
Market observers expect further revisions of the policy based on market prices and arrival volumes.
