Mumbai Bakeries Face Deadline on Fuel Transition
Mumbai is trying to clean up its air by making bakeries use cleaner fuels.
A court ordered them to switch by July 9, but not all bakeries will be ready.
About 200 bakeries already use clean fuel, but many still use dirty ones like coal.
The city is working to help them switch, but some may face penalties or closure if they don't comply.
The government is also planning to offer financial help to make the change easier for the bakeries.
Only 75 of 353 polluting bakeries are expected to transition to green fuels by the July 9 deadline.
48 bakeries have successfully transitioned, and the rest are in the final stages.
BMC officials are talking to 150 bakeries to start the process, with 132 remaining pending.
The BMC will issue notices and potentially close non-compliant bakeries after the deadline.
Mumbai's minister proposed an incentive scheme with subsidies to help bakeries switch fuels.
