China Investigates Top General for Nuclear Leaks, Bribes
A very important Chinese military leader named General Zhang Youxia is being investigated.
He is accused of giving secret information about China's nuclear weapons to the United States and taking money to help people get important jobs in the military.
He is also accused of making groups within the military that go against the rules of the Communist Party.
This is a big deal because General Zhang was one of the closest military allies of China's leader, Xi Jinping.
Xi has been trying to stop corruption in the military, and this investigation is part of that effort.
Some people think this could make the military less ready to fight in the short term, but it might also make Xi have more control over the military.
General Zhang Youxia, senior vice chairman of China's Central Military Commission, is under investigation for leaking nuclear secrets to the US and accepting bribes.
Allegations include forming political cliques that undermined Communist Party unity and abusing authority within the CMC.
The investigation is part of Xi Jinping's sweeping anti-graft campaign inside the People’s Liberation Army.
Evidence stems from an investigation into Gu Jun, former head of China National Nuclear Corp.
Analysts warn that the purge of senior figures could disrupt military readiness in the short term.
