TSX Hits Record High on Bank Earnings
The TSX, which is like a big scoreboard for Canadian stocks, reached a new high on Thursday.
This happened because some big banks, like CIBC and TD Bank, made more money than people thought they would.
Another company, Descartes, which makes software for logistics, also did really well and its stock went up a lot.
The price of oil also went up a bit.
People think the economy might get better next year, which made investors happy and pushed the stock market higher.
TSX Composite index rose to a record high of 31,477.57, up 1%.
CIBC shares rose 4.1% after beating earnings estimates.
Descartes Systems Group Inc shares jumped 14.4% after third-quarter revenue beat estimates.
Energy sector added 0.3% as oil prices settled 1.2% higher at $59.67 a barrel.
Investors expect Federal Reserve to cut interest rates, supporting oil prices.
